This recipe is a take on the classic Rice Krispy Treats recipe. These bars are ooey, gooey, and have a rich nutty aroma and flavor from the browned butter. It's that recipe where you will leave the knife in the pan, only meaning to take one small slice at a time, to then realize you have eaten the whole pan in one day. You're welcome.

Ingredients

- Unsalted Butter - I love to use unsalted butter in my bakes.
- Mini Marshmallows - I use mini marshmallows in this recipe to ensure they are melted properly.
- Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal - Adds the classic flavors and textures to the bars.
See the recipe card below for quantities and measurements.
Variations
Want to try these Rice Krispy treats another way? I mean you really should try these simple add-ins:
- Chocolate Chips- If desired sprinkle some mini chocolate semi-sweet chips on top.
- White Chocolate - Drizzle some white chocolate on top.
- Golden Grams & Fruity Pebbles - This recipe works with almost any type of dry cereal.
- Cinnamon Sugar - Sprinkle some cinnamon & sugar on top of the bars before letting them set in the baking pan.
Equipment
Equipment can have a big impact on how a recipe turns out. I would recommend using the following equipment:
Instructions

- Spray a 13 X 9 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Add the butter to a small saucepan. Melt on a low heat. Every 15 seconds swirl your butter to help it melt. Keep swirling the pan until the milk solids start to bubble to the top. After about 5-10 minutes, watch the color of your butter, it will begin to turn brown. Once your butter turns brown, remove it from the heat. In an extra large mixing bowl, add the mini marshmallows. Pour the brown butter over the mini marshmallows.

2. Using a microwave, working in 15-30 second intervals, melt the marshmallows and the butter together. You will need to do this several times until everything is combined and smooth. Make sure to mix the gooey marshmallows and the browned butter each time you remove it from the microwave.
Hint: When melting the marshmallows and butter together, the key is to go low and slow to avoid burning. Remember, you can't rush a masterpiece. This my friend is just that.

3. Add the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal to the bowl. Stir quickly to coat the cereal. You want to make sure you have the cereal fully coated in the marshmallow mixture before it starts to harden. This mixture will harden quickly. So don't take that phone call or respond to that text. STIR.

4. For the last step, pour the Brown Butter Cinnamon Toast Crunch Rice Krispy Treats into the greased with nonstick cooking spray 13 X 9 baking dish. Spread them out evenly. Cover with plastic wrap and allow them to set for 1 hour. Or if you are anything like me, you say: "Forget the whole waiting for an hour, how about 5 min?" Whatever your preference, slice and enjoy!
Storage
If you can stop eating these bars, store fully set Brown Butter Cinnamon Toast Crunch Rice Krispy Treats in an airtight container at room temperature on the countertop for 3-4 days.
Top Tip
Once you add the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal to the marshmallow mixture, work quickly to get the cereal coated. This mixture will harden very quickly, stick to your spatula, almost becoming concrete. Save that concrete for the sidewalk and work quickly.

FAQ
Brown butter is made by heating up butter until the milk solids (the white stuff that floats to the top when you are melting butter) are toasted and have a nutty flavor.
Do not freeze or store in the fridge. They will become soggy and rubbery. I mean, will they even make it to the freezer? Good luck with that.
Some days I want to fight with parchment paper, some days I can't be bothered. So, if you are having a good day, then yes! If you do not want to use cooking spray, you can line the baking pan with parchment paper.
