Ingredients

Ingredients for Rice Crispy treats.
  • Butter - it is the base of this dessert
  • Marshmallows - the most important ingredient. I like to use mini marshmallows.
  • Salt - gives the recipe an extra kick

See the recipe card below for quantities and measurements.

Variations

Want to add some extras? Try these simple add-ins:

  • Fruity Pebbles - If desired you can swap out rice crispy cereal with fruity pebbles cereal.
  • Nuts - Want to add in some crunch? Top your rice crispy treats with some finely chopped nuts
  • Mini Marshmallows - If desired you can sprinkle some mini marshmallows on top.

Equipment

Equipment can have a big impact on how a recipe turns out. I would recommend using the following:

  • 13X9 pan
  • Spatula
  • Mixing bowls

Instructions

Rice Crispy cereal in a bowl with butter, salt and marshmallows.
  1. Place the marshmallows, salt, and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Working in 30-40 second intervals, melt the marshmallows, salt, and butter. Making sure to stir each time, until all the ingredients are melted together and smooth.

4. Once the rice krispy treats have hardened remove them from the refrigerator. Place your white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and melt them in 20-30 second intervals. Stirring each time. Once they are melted swirl in your food coloring. Drizzle over the rice krispy treats and top with sprinkles. Let the chocolate harden for about 15 minutes. Slice and enjoy.

Hint: To avoid the rice krispy mixture from sticking to the spoon, heat your spoon/spatula by running it under hot water. Or spray your spoon/spatula with cooking spray.

Storage

Store fully cooled and decorated Rice Krispy Treats in an air-tight container on the countertop for 3-4 days.

Top Tip

When melting everything for this recipe make sure to work in batches and slowly. Do not rush the melting process.
