Who doesn't love a good hot fudge sundae? It's like a celebration in a bowl! This classic dessert sauce is made in one pot and is rich and chocolatey. Maybe toss on some toasted nuts or sprinkles for drama, and voilà—each spoonful is a cheerful reminder that calories don’t count when you’re this happy, making it the perfect choice for life’s big moments, Netflix binges, or just because you deserve it!

Ingredients

Ingredients
  • Cocoa powder - gives the fudge sauce its chocolate flavor
  • Granulated sugar - sweetens the sauce
  • Corn starch - helps to make an extra thick sauce

See recipe card below for quantities and measurements.

Variations

The list of things you can add to your sundae is endless. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Whipped Cream
  • Nuts
  • Cherries
  • Fresh fruit
  • Caramel sauce

Equipment

For this recipe I recommend you use the following equipment:

  • Medium-sized non-stick sauce pan
  • Spatula
  • Whisk

Instructions

sugar, butter, cocoa powder, milk in a pot
  1. Step 1: In a medium size pot, combine all ingredients except corn starch and milk. Cook over medium-low heat. Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth.

  1. Step 2: Once the sugar is dissolved, and the mixture is not grainy, remove from the heat. The sauce will thicken as it cools.

  1. Step 3: For the slurry mixture, in a small dish combine the milk and corn starch. Whisk together until combined. Add the mixture into the warm hot fudge sauce. Stir until fully combined. Let sauce cool a bit.

  1. Step 4: Grab your favorite type of ice cream, and top with the warm hot fudge sauce.

Hint: The slurry will make the sauce very thick. This is optional. If you are fine with the thickness of your sauce, you do not need to add it in.

Storage

Store the sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. If it hardens, that's normal. Just reheat it in the microwave.

Top Tip

Keep stirring the sauce. You want the sugar to slowly dissolve, and the sauce not to burn.

FAQ

What is the difference between Hot Fudge Sauce and Chocolate Sauce?

Hot Fudge Sauce is a much thicker sauce than Chocolate Sauce. Trust me this sauce is thick.
